Golden Gate
Currently the second longest bridge in the United States, the Golden Gate, which connects the main city of San Francisco to its peninsula and neighboring Marin County and Sausalito, was the world's largest suspension bridge when it was completed in 1937. The bridge has become an international symbol of San Francisco and is known for its distinct red-orange color.
The Golden Gate Bridge is about 1.7 miles long, so a walk across it is no mean feat. However, the sidewalk is open to both pedestrians and bicyclers during daylight hours. It can get quite crowded, so be prepared to share the space and wear your good walking shoes!
