Georgetown Guyana

INTRODUCTION

The city is located at the mouth of the Demerara River, which is one of the many rivers that flow from the Guiana Highlands and across the coastal plain to the Atlantic Ocean.

Designed by the Dutch, Georgetown has tree-lined avenues, lily-covered canals, and numerous 18th and 19th century colonial buildings. Its tropical botanical gardens are among the very best in the world.
