George Mason University

Named in 1959 after founding father George Mason, the public university now has more than 18,000 undergraduate enrolled. The university was originally a branch of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, but GMU was separated from UVA in 1972. The university is still growing and U.S. News & World Report ranked GMU as the No. 1 in its category as an up-and-coming university.
