Francistown, Botswana Travel Guide

INTRODUCTION

This is one of the oldest towns in Botswana; it is known as the "old lady." The town is the site of Southern Africa's first gold rush. The town is a travel hub for visitors since it has a railway station and airport, serving as transit stops for those heading north and west to the safari-lands. There are also major roadways in Francistown that link to Gaborone, Zimbabwe, Kazungula, and Maun, the gateway to the Okavango. Francistown is centrally located and is a perfect access to other popular attractions like the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, and Chobe National Park.

The population in Francistown is over 60,000 people. It is known for commerce and has an influx of mining and maufacturing job opportunities.

Francistown is also close to Botswana's Tuli Block Area and its Salt Pans.

Chobe National Park - famous for its huge herds of elephants and buffalo.

Mashatu Game Reserve - is the largest private reserve in Africa and has over 900 elephants roaming the reserve.
