INTRODUCTION
The North East African Nation of Eritrea is a small country with a big past. It sits on the Red Sea, bordering Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.
Originally colonised by Italy and later taken over by neighbouring Ethiopia, the country has suffered for centuries.
An independant nation since 1993, it is still learning to cope by itslef and has become a very poor and undeveloped country.
Even now, trouble remains between Eritrea and Ethiopia, especially along the disputed border between the two.
Despite such troubles, Eritrea is a fascinating little nation. Yet to be touched by tourists or even the backpacker trail, Eritrea has endless opportunities for off the beaten track exploration as well as discovering your own slice of paradise on a deserted beach by the Red Sea Coast.
Take a trip to the beautiful capital city Asmara, which is unlike any other African capital.
Grab yourself a snorkel or diving equipment and head to the Dahlak Archipelago for virtually untouched coral reefs.
