The outside of Dublin Castle may look like any state building, but the inside is a work of art. Standing on the foundations of what was once a Viking fortress, Dublin Castle is now the site of Irish business and government, acting as a stay for foreign leaders. The tour of this Castle will take you through the history of its construction from its old Viking foundations still partailly standing to the state apartments that were once the site of British rule in Ireland. It is an ornately decorated place that shows a progression in Irish history and the fashions of centuries past. From the intricate golden moldings on the ceilings to the large gilded throne in one room. It is a beautiful place full of historic significance.

Walking around outside the castle can be quite a treat as well. Even if you have very little background in architecture, you will surely recognize that the exterior of Dublin Castle is not all from one period. Indeed, it is quite interesting to see a Viking tower joined to gothic spires which blend into stately Edwardian grandeur. The grounds of Dublin Castle also feature some lovely gardens, next to which is the Chester Beatty Library.
