INTRODUCTION
Dominica (pronounced Dominique-ah) is an amazing country that consists of 80-90% of undeveloped land. If a quiet hike through the rain forest is your type of vacation, then this is the place for you. However, this is a fairly poor country and amenities are unfortunately rather lacking for the middle class tourist. There are incredible hiking trails and natural preservations for all activity levels. Try the day trip into "Emerald Pool?" and make sure to bring your swim trunks!
HISTORY
Christpher Columbus discovered this island on a Sunday, hence the name "Dominica", which is derived from the word "domingo" (Spanish for "Sunday").

Whale Watching
Dominica has been known as the whale watching capital of the Caribbean over the past few years and has earned a reputation as one of the top five dive destinations in the world. In addition to unique dive sites like Champagne, which features a bubbling, underwater hot spring, Dominica's reefs are full of gorgeous, multi-coloured hard and soft coral, an abundance of reef fish, and fascinating marine critters, such as seahorses and frogfish. The underwater terrain is unique and diverse, providing dive sites suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to very experienced.
Boiling Lake
Boiling Lake is the most famous in the island. The water is bubbly, greyish blue in color, and usually surrounded by a cloud of vapour. It's a difficult place to get to, so get help from a local guide who knows the territory well.
The Sea Turtles of Dominica
Every evening ROSTI beach patrollers--who have special access to the beach and play an integral part in the protection of its animals--escorts visitors on a walk under the stars, giving them the chance to watch a giant sea turtle in the distance getting closer and closer and, hopefully, witness dozens of tiny hatchlings scurrying to the safety of the Atlantic Ocean.
