Dolmabahce Palace

The Dolmabahce Palace, home of the largest Bohemian crystal chandelier in the world, is located along the Bosphorus Strait. The Empire's 31st Sultan, Abdülmecid I, ordered the construction of the palace sometime between 1843 and 1856.

The palace houses the famous crystal staircase, shaped like a double horseshoe, which is built with Baccarat crystal, mahogany and brass. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey, died in the Palace in 1938, and since then, the clocks in his bedroom have been set to 9:05 a.m., the time of his death.
