Denver Colorado

INTRODUCTION

This Rocky Mountain metropolis is known as the "Mile-High City" because of its location exactly 1 mile above sea level. Denver is the state capital of Colorado and an important gateway city between Midwestern cities like Chicago and the big cities of the West Coast.

Denver is primarily known as a gateway to Rocky Mountain adventures during the summer and winter months because it’s located only 15 miles from these ranges. But Denver is consistently voted as one of the top places for singles to live because of its great gallery, bar, and restaurant scene.

Denver has more than 250 individual landmarks and 28 historic districts that contain more than 6,000 structures designated for preservaton. It also has other attractions such as the Buffalo Bill Museum and the Denver Mint.

HISTORY

The Denver area was home to summer encampments of the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes until the area was settled as a base for miners and traders in the 1850’s. From 1890 until the early 1900’s Denver was the largest city west of Omaha.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Development in the Denver area has grown quicker than the infrastructure around it, making traffic a constant issue. Denverites have voted to increase their sad public transportation system, but improvements are years away. Denver for the most part uses the grid system, and if you need a reference point, the mountains are located to the west.
