This is the second smallest state in the United States; only Rhode Island is smaller. Delaware is made up of the Eastern Shore counties of Maryland and two counties of Virginia, forming the Delmarva Peninsula, which is a geographical unit on the Mid-Atlantic. Dover is the state capital.
