DC At Night By Amanda TorresDecember of 2004 as we were driving back to Florida from New York, we decided to check out Washington DC even though it was 1 in the morning! I would like to warn other southerners such as ourselves about soemthing that occurs during the colder months. Steam rises in huge puffs of clouds out of the manholes. We ended up in a tunnel and let me just say that is when I started to get scared! It is easy to laugh now, but this was scary! The Secret Servicemen were very kind to our children considering the hour. At first we were being watched like we were criminals of course! But after they figure you not to be a threat, they will perhaps point out a few landmarks and give you some history about our capital city. I would actually recommend visiting the city late at night as there were zero people out and about. No cars on the streets, no protests, nothing but quiet.
