Comoe National Park

This park in the north east of the Ivory Coast is the largest gameprk in West Africa and a designated UNESCO world heritage site.

The park was initially added as a World Heritage Site due to the diversity of plant life present around the Comoé River, including pristine patches of tropical rain forest that are usually only found further south.

In 2003 it was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in Danger due to poaching, over-grazing of the park by cattle, and absence of management.

There are many animals to be spotted here including lions in the southern part of the river. Other animals that can be seen include the elephant, 21 species of pigs, green monkey, hippo, Anubis baboo, black and white Colobus, waterbuck, kob, roan, antelopes.

Visitors can also observe a large variety of birds - over 400 species have been recorded.
