Clifden, Ireland

Set on the breathtaking coastline of Connemara, Clifden is the closest town to some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. It is a great place to base your exploration of surrounding Connemara.

Sky Road

The city of Clifden boasts numerous shops where you can find everything from sweaters to antiques. Because of its ideal location, it also has a variety of hotels, hostels and B&Bs. Clifden is also quickly becoming renowned for its excellent cuisine. Whether it is simply a scone and cup of tea in a quaint cafe or an elegant dinner of exquisitely fresh seafood, outdoor explorers will find Clifden a prime spot to take a break from trail mix.

A short walk out of town will take you to the Sky Road, one of the most scenic drives in Ireland. Hardy visitors can hike up the road to discover some of its spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding countryside, but the experience is easier by car. Along the road there are numerous picturesque spots and historic ruins, such as Clifden Castle, that the intrepid traveler can explore at will.
