INTRODUCTION
This is the state capital and largest city in Wyoming. It is the county seat in Laramie county and the largest city in Wyoming.
HISTORY
The site of Cheyenne was plotted in 1867 by General Grenville Dodge and his crew. The population sprang up due to the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. Most of the population moved westward with the continuation of the railroad and who was left formed a diverse, rough population. Burlesque theaters and saloons cropped up during this time. However, the railroad was paramount in bringing many Eastern culture and style. The city was influenced by a large cattle industry as well which attracted many wealthy men from the East and Europe. The city was named after the Cheyenne, a prominent tribe in the area.
