INTRODUCTION
This stunningly picturesque town is 3-4 hours south of Prague by train or bus. Summers tend to be popular with most tourists, while winters can afford an even quieter experience and cheaper lodging prices.
HISTORY
Also centered on the Vltava River, Cesky Krumlov was established in the 13th century as an important area for trade and commerce in Southern Bohemia. After traded between numerous royal Austro-Germanic families, it became a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century. It continued to follow the rest of Czech history until it was ceded to the Czech Republic in the early 1990s.
