Cappadocia Turkey

The Cappadocian landscape in Turkey is one of breath-taking fascination. Erosion has shaped the rocky geography of the area, once made by ancient, and currently extinct, volanoes, into soft edged peaks of countless shapes and sizes. In addition to nature, humans have carved homes and churches into the side of the terrain starting in 2 B.C.

ACCOMMODATION

Cappadocia Cave Resort and Spa: Carved into the awesome and mysterious landscape is a luxury five star hotel. This cave resort offers guests gorgeous rooms that combine the simplicity of nature and the beauty of modernity. The list of activities and services is a long one, including fitness center, game room, spa, BBQ facilities, horseback riding, airport shuttle, dry cleaning, currency exchange, wireless internet, and much more!

ACTIVITIES

Hot Air Ballooning: Hot air ballooning is perhaps the perfect way to see what Cappadocia has to offer travelers. There are several companies that can bring you up, but they are all generally at least an hour. This activity is well worth the time and money spent, as you will never get to appreciate and experience Cappadocia without a view from the top. With a rainbow of colors in the land and vegetation, and the ever-changing landscape, Cappadocia stands out among other European countries.

Mountain Biking: Mountain biking tours can be arranged, or travelers can pedal throughout Cappadocia on their own. The dirt roads give bikers a challenge, while the immensely stunning landscape is available for viewing during the whole biking adventure. This sport is so popular that at the end of June every year, a mountain biking festival is held for professionals and amateurs.

Wine Festival: The city of Urgup, Turkey, which is situated in a popular wine region, is host to the annual Wine Festival in October. It is here that the numerous variations of wine are put in the spotlight for their high quality and rich taste. Due to the fertile soil, there are many fruit orchards and vineyards throughout Cappadocia which make this a wine lover's destination.

Avanos International Tourism and Handicrafts Festival: Every year in the riverside town of Avanos the International Tourism and Handicrafts Festival is held to display the local hand made ceramic pottery. The pottery is, and has always been, made with the ceramic clay from the red silt of the nearby river. Catch this festival at the end of August and beginning of September, and purchase some authentic, memorable souvenirs.

CUISINE

The Turkish cuisine is similar to that of other Mediterrean diets in that the locals utilize the freshest ingredients possible. In addition, their use of olive oil is wide spread. Breakfasts generally consist of bread, olive, honey, tea, preserves, and other staple items. The cheese is a very important product in the Turkish diet, as there are so many varieties to choose from. Countless species of seafood are yours to sample and order, often served with lemon and a salad.

A favorite alcoholic drink often served with appetizers is called Raki, which is made from grapes and anise. Appetizers consist of the main ingredients on the Turkish menu: olives, cheese, salads, mussels, and cheese pastries made with phyllo, among others.
