Cape Coast Castle, Ghana

Cape Coast Castle, dating back as far as 1653, is a reminder of Ghana's difficult past.

The Cape Caost was the largest slave trading centre in all of west Africa and the European fort situated here is where many of the slaves would have been imprisoned before been shipped off to other parts of the world duch as to the United States.

If you would like to see other Slave Castles in Ghana, head to the Portuguese foundation of Elmina Castle and Fort Christiansborg.
