Cannon Beach Oregon

Cannon Beach is a great Northwest coastal town, famous for its 250-foot Haystack Rock? just offshore.

The sandy beach runs for miles and is very wide. It's dog-friendly as well, and you're bound to see at least one furry, four-legged friend chasing a ball or frisbee, and probably some kite-flyers.

The downtown area of Cannon Beach features a plethera of shopping opportunities, restaurants of all kinds, and surf & kite shops.

The town is packed during spring break, even though the weather is often less than ideal for hanging out on the beach. The craggy bluffs and the beautiful beaches more than make up for any ill-tempered weather, though.

The town is proud of its legendary location on the site of Ecola Creek?, where explorers Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific Ocean. Apparently they traversed Ecola Creek to the ocean, and found the carcus of a dead, beached whale. The Native American word for whale was "Ecola", and the creek was unimaginatively named accordingly.

Places to Stay

The Ecola Creek Lodge? is a small, cozy hotel said to be sited on the exact spot from where the two explorers first viewed the Pacific Ocean. It is clean and comfortable, with movies you can rent, and high-speed internet access.

Places to Eat

There are a variety of restaurants in town, including the Pig 'n Pancake Restaurant?, a family restaurant serving great American-style breakfasts.

There are pizza joints, fine dining restaurants, and lots of cafes, coffee shops, and ice cream shops.
