The Burren is a rocky landscape in northwest County Clare. Due to its unique rock formations and climate, the flora of the area is a peculiar mix of Arctic, Mediterranean, and Alpine plants. The Burren also has a high concentration of megalithic tombs, dolmens (ancient standing stones), and several ring forts. The rolling hills are made of pavement-like limestone with rich grasses growing between the cracks, making it surprisingly good pasture. Like the rest of County Clare, the Burren is renowned as a stronghold of traditional Irish music.
The Burren is frequently combined with the Cliffs of Moher on bus tours leaving from Galway City. The area is also a popular hiking destination and there are numerous walking tours available.
