Brest Fortress Belarus

In 1830 the Emperor Nicholas I approved the design of this impressive fortress. The fortress was supposed to be a masterpiece of military engineering, as well as an outstanding work of art. By the beginning of the 20th century the fortress was the main Russian outpost on the western border.
