The outstanding old Hanseatic port of Bremen has recently opened its first design hotel. The ÜberFluss is on the waterfront overlooking the river Weser. Check out the old town and the Schnoorviertel, which once housed the city's fishermen.
Bremen has also recently become known as the setting of the world-renowned Jacobs University, which began as the International University of Bremen in 1999, modeled after Rice University. Today its official language is English, it has exchange programs with a variety of institutions around the world, and attracts an increasingly international student body.
