Belmopan Belize Travel Guide

INTRODUCTION

Belmopan, or "The Garden City", is the smallest capital in the world. Like any other small city, walking is the most used transportation, but if taking a cab sounds better, going anywhere in a taxi costs about $3.00.

HISTORY

Belize City was originally Belize's capital. After the 1961 Hurricane Hatty the city was left devastated and Belmopan took its place capital.

ATTRACTIONS

Market square is the place where most of the local commerce takes place. Tropical fruits, vegetables, spices, local food, and copycat designer jewelry are sold here.

Visit the Guancaste Park, which is great for nature lovers. Orchids and other beautiful plants, as well as animals, are everywhere to be seen. Take a swim at Roaring Creek.
