Beaverton Oregon

Beaverton, to the west of Portland, is basically a suburban hell with absolutely nothing to offer to the self-respecting tourist. Its downtown has no charm aside from a Hooters, and even that got removed. It's an excellent place to raise a family, but it would be a horrible place to take a family to on vacation.

If you find yourself stuck in Beaverton, here are a few things you can do.

Have the best sushi in the Portland area. Hakata Mon, in the Uwajimaya Asian Supermarket, is ridiculously cheap and absolutely amazing. Buy more than 7 dollars worth of food, you get miso and salad free. Located on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy.

Enjoy some sweet potato fries. Brewpub The Raccoon Lodge serves the best fries and sauces in the Portland area, and the happy hour prices are amazing. A great place to go if caught in this horrible, horrible town.

Take in a movie. Valley Theater serves beer in addition to showing second run movies. Over at Cedar Hills Place, the multiplex is one of the biggest in the area and occasionally shows independent movies, too.

Shop. If Cheesecake Factory gets you randy, and the Gap presses all the right buttons, then Beaverton truly is the place to be. National chains are everywhere. Head over to Washington Square or the Streets of Tanasbourne if you need your fill of the same thing from everywhere else in the country.
