The Basilica di San Marco, or the Cathedral of Venice, is one of the best remaining examples of Byzantine architecture and lies in the center of Venice, next to Doge's Palace and the Piazza San Marco. It was originally the chapel of the Doge and other political rulers and was directly connected to Doge's Palace. The Basilica later became the city's cathedral and for centuries since has been a symbol of Venice's power. Inside, beautiful mosiacs glisten everywhere look, making it appear golden; the wealth of the city is undeniable. Watch your step though because like the city, the floor has begun to sink and is very uneven.
