Bamako Travel Guide

Bamako is the capital of Mali and reportedly the fastest growing city in Africa.

Located on the Niger river floodplains, the city is relatively flat, except in the north where there is an escarpment, being what remains of an extinct volcano, where the Presidential Palace and main hospital are located.

The growing population is taking its toll on Bamako which is not equipped for so many people. Easy comparable to a collection of villages rather than a city, there are few paved roads, instead dirt tracks curving through the sprawling city boundaries.
