The Bale Mountains National Park is a national park in the Oromia Region of southeast Ethiopia, south of the Awash River.
The Bale Mountains are home to many of Ethiopia's endemic animals, notably the Ethiopian Wolf, found on the Sanetti Plateau. The park also contains the Harenna Forest, situated to the south of the mountains which is a largely unexplored area thought to contain many undiscovered species of reptile as well as lion, leopard and various types of antelope.

Besides wildlife the National Park offers exceptional trekking opportunities from the park headquarters at Dinsho or Dodola.
Locals can tailor 1-7 day treks or longer depended on your schedule, staying in remote mountain lodges run by locals along the way. If you want re-aquaint yourself with the wild, organize a trip to wabe shabelle falls from Dodola and up into the mountains where the tents are pitched ABOVE the clouds.
You can bring food with you to cook or you can summon child shepherds to your camp and choose a goat to be slaughtered. The local guides are full of interesting facts about the area, history and medicinal uses of the plants indeginous to the region.
At night listen out for wild wolves and hyeenas.
