Avenue Montaigne

Once the common destination for women in mourning, Avenue Montaigne is now home to shops specializing in the height of modern fashion, thanks to the efforts of the Moët Hennessey Louis Vuitton Fashion group. Women pay respects to the fashion gods here by shopping till they drop or come to watch the high priestesses exercise their expertise (and credit cards). Avenue Montaigne is the center of haute couture, almost all the big names in the fashion world are represented along this broad boulevard. Popular designers such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Escada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Bvlgari, Valentino, Christian Dior, and even Baby Dior have retail locations on the strip.

Is also known for historic Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, an Art Nouveau theatre dating to 1913, and Plaza Athénée hotel, a popular destination for visitors looking to enjoy shopping along the nearby Champs-Élysées and in the mood for a sip of luxury. Stopping by the Plaza Athénée for a drink in the grand reception area offers memorable views of the city and the river, and several excellent restaurants. Not to mention an opportunity to watch celebrities strolling by. To give your feet a rest, try indulging in a decadent cup of rum-spiked hot chocolate or a chocolate shake at La Maison du Chocolat, at 52, rue Pierre Charron, as well as to take in the delightful jewel-like display of chocolates.

Cross the Rond Point up to avenue Matignon for its high-end art galleries and to satisfy the your appetite for culture at the same time. A walk along rue du Faubourg St. Honoré and rue Francois 1er also offers the opportunity to visit a few more shopping hot spots off the well-trodden Avenue Montaigne path. Stop at Hermés to marvel at the beautiful craftsmanship of its esteemed leather bags, ties, and other accessories. Like a museum, you'll be inspired by the breadth of beauty but discouraged from fondling the goods by the abundant number of security guards. The presidential palace, or the Palais de l'Élysée, runs along the south side of the street.
