Australian National Botanical Gardens In Canberra

The Australian National Botanical Gardens maintains a scientific collection of native plants from all parts of Australia. The plants are displayed for the enjoyment and education of visitors and are used for research in plant classification and biology. A herbarium of preserved plant specimens is closely associated with the living collection.

The Gardens also cultivate plants threatened in the wild. This helps protect them against extinction and provides information which might assist re-introduction to their natural habitat.

Gardens area: 90 hectares (40 hectares developed)

There is a visitor center to get information about the gardens, as well as a bookshop and cafe. It also has function facilities.

The Gardens are open at 8:30 a.m. every day (except Christmas Day) and close at 5 p.m., except in January, when they close at 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8 p.m. on weekends. The gates are locked when the Gardens are closed.
