Asmara, the capital city of Eritrea has remained much likeness to its days under Italian colonial rule. The city is full of peaceful outdoor cafes serving authentic Italian Coffee or traditional macchiatos.
The pace of life is layed back and relaxed and you can easily wander around the old colonial buildings that remain preserved in the city.
There is also a beautiful cinema, Cinema Imperio, with italian decor dating back to 1920's. Other attractions include the Asmara Opera house, the Synagogue, the National Museum, and Al Khulafa Al Rashiudin Mosque.
Unlike other African capitals, you are unlikely to be hassled here at all. Definetely one of the easiet African cities to travel in/around.
