This area is mainly known for its local college (Northland) that specializes in the sciences of the great outdoors. If you want to do any sightseeing, you'll have to visit a neighboring city. The movie theater shows few movies and there are very few restaurants and shops.
While there may not be much to do in the town itself, Ashland is a great base for exploring the beautiful Lake Superior shoreline and the Apostle Islands. If you are in town for a few days, you might want to stop in the Black Cat Coffee House for a cup of Fair Trade coffee in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. If you are in the area for a little longer, you can stop by the South Shore Brewery where you will find some excellent local microbrews.
