INTRODUCTION
Located high in the east Pyrenees, between France and Spain, this city's principal industry is tourism. It is also the capital of this principality, as well as its biggest town. Lying at the confluence of the Gran Valira, the Valira del Oriente, and the Valira del Norte rivers, Andorra La Vella is dwarfed by stunning snow-capped mountains of up to 2500 metres high. The town has now grown to absorb the once independent villages of Escaldes: Engordany and Santa Coloma.
Andorra la Vella has streets crammed with jewelery and fur and luxury goods stores. A wonderful afternoon can be spent wandering the market and finding a bargain. Don't be afraid to haggle for a bargain and have fun.
HISTORY
Andorra La Vella has been the major city of Andorra since 1278. Throughout its history Andorra has been a largely forgotten feudal state. In 1993 the city finished its first constitution, making it a parlimentary democracy.
