Amarillo Texas

CADILLAC RANCH, BIG OL' STEAKS, AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE

Enjoy some of the most awesome sunsets in one of the friendlist cities in Texas. Situated directly on old Route 66, Amarillo has been accustomed to accommodating visitors since it's inception.

Amarillo sometimes gets a bad rap because of its changing weather. As the saying goes though, if you don't like the weather, just hang around a little while, and it will change.

When visiting Amarillo, there are a couple of must-sees for all new visitors. The Cadillac Ranch, where Stanley Marsh has literally buried Cadillacs with just their tail fins showing, can be viewed from Interstate 40 and always has tourists painting or signing the cars.

Hungry? The legendary Big Texan Steakhouse is also located on Interstate 40. They offer live music (country, of course), great food, and even a free steak if you can eat it in an hour; many try, few make it! For a fantastic burger, stop by the Golden Light Cafe on old Route 66. The Golden Light is the oldest continuously operating cafe on Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. After sampling one of their old fashioned burgers, you'll understand why.

Only a few miles away, visit or camp at beautiful Palo Duro Canyon, which has been referred to as the smaller Grand Canyon. The colorful rock formations and quiet serenity inspire all who visit.

Palo Duro Canyon is the home of the outdoor theatre where the musical TEXAS is performed and receives rave reviews. The show is available every year in the summertime, and you can even have a genuine Texas barbeque dinner before the show under the stars.

Plenty of restaurants, a planetarium, theatres and sports abound here, but the attraction you certainly won't want to miss is the friendly people!
