École Normale De Musique De Paris Paris

Located only a few blocks from the University of Paris-Sorbonne Paris IV, the ECOLE NORMALE DE MUSIQUE was founded in 1919 by the famous pianist Alfred Cortot and his partner Auguste Mangeot.

On a Friday night in March, I was fortunate to attend a double piano concert at Salle Cortot, the school's concert hall. The hall's acoustics are so fine that Cortot himself said the hall "sounds like a Stradivarius."

Although I had not reserved tickets, I was able to purchase a ticket once the doors had opened. The price for this evening, part of the school's on-going concert series, was very reasonable - only 20 Euro for open seating (I ended up in the front row!).

I've been to concert halls throughout the United States. Although Salle Cortot only seats around 400, the classical music (Mozart, Brahms, Ravel, and Lutoslawski) which resonated in the air that evening was remarkable!
